Position Responsibilities
Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) is seeking a Sessional instructor in the Early Learning and Child Care (ELCC) program. As an instructor you will draw upon your experience in early childhood education and a variety of resources to teach both certificate and diploma- level courses. This work will occur on RDP’s main campus and in an online environment. Instructional times are dependent on assigned workload.

Candidates should provide evidence of capacity to teach one or more of the following courses in the ELCC Diploma program

  • ELCC 201 – Foundations of Early Learning & Child Care
  • ELCC 206 – Introduction to Special Needs
  • ELCC 210 – Practicum I
  • ELCC 211 – Child Development
  • ELCC 212 – Play and Documentation
  • ELCC 213 – Interpersonal Relations
  • ELCC 215 – Literacies and Dramatic Play
  • ELCC 217 – Guiding Behavior
  • ELCC 218 – Responsive Experiences
  • ELCC 220 – Practicum II

Year Two Courses:
  • ELCC 305 – School Age Care Studies
  • ELCC 308 – Family Support
  • ELCC 310 – Practicum III
  • ELCC 313 – Interpersonal Relations II
  • ELCC 315 – Program Administration
  • ELCC 317 – Creative Play Perspectives

Required Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education or a related discipline
  • A minimum of five (5) years of full-time experience working in a variety of early childhood program environments for children (birth to age 8), such as day care, preschool, or school-age care
  • Experience teaching adult learners
  • Demonstrated awareness/knowledge of the document: “Flight: Alberta’s Early Learning Framework”
Preferred Qualifications
Combination of:
  • Graduate degree in a related field
  • Post-Secondary teaching experience
  • Experience teaching in an online environment
  • Familiarity using Blackboard as a Learning Management System
  • Experience teaching adult English language learners

Benefits and Compensation Information
Red Deer Polytechnic offers a comprehensive benefits package including Alberta Blue Cross extended health and dental plans, and health spending account. There is a tuition waiver for RDP credit courses for you as well as your immediate family members, as well as opportunities for professional development funding. The Local Authorities Pension Plan is also offered as an option to those who have served a waiting period. There is paid time off due to Institution closures between Christmas and New Year general holidays. This position also offers an additional 8% of the regular salary in lieu of vacation.
