Position Title Associate Dean, School of Trades and Technology
Position Summary
Red Deer Polytechnic is currently inviting applications for the full-time role of Associate Dean within the School of Trades and Technology, with a desired start in July 2023. We are hiring two Associate Deans, expanding the current leadership team to support a growing student population and program mix. One of the Associate Dean positions will have a portfolio comprised entirely of Skilled Trades programs and the second Associate Dean will oversee a mix of Engineering Technology and Skilled Trades programs.

The School of Trades and Technology encompasses 16 Trades Apprenticeships and two Engineering Technology programs. In addition to entering a period of significant growth in Skilled Trades enrolment, the vision is to grow the number and mix of Engineering Technology programs such as to warrant a leadership team devoted to that area on its own.
Position Responsibilities
The Associate Dean serves an academic and operational leadership role, contributing to the future growth of the School and Red Deer Polytechnic. You are responsible for leading Faculty and Staff in their development, delivery, modification, and advancement of curriculum. You provide support and mentorship as the direct supervisor to Faculty members helping them develop their instructional work, professional growth, and scholarly activity which results in high-quality learning experiences for students. You will also lead the development of new programming within your portfolio and lead or support the leadership of initiatives in other areas of the Polytechnic.

You will work with the Dean and other colleagues to establish and implement goals and objectives which support an institutional culture of teaching and learning excellence. You will be part of a learning community that advances the mission of Red Deer Polytechnic to strengthen and enrich the intellectual, economic, cultural, and social development of our region. You are also responsible for leading teams to achieve strategic goals and financial measures for the area.

Required Qualifications
Education and Experience:
  • Journeyperson credential in one or more Skilled Trades, or a degree related to educational leadership plus familiarity with educational approaches for Trades Apprenticeship and Engineering Technology programs
  • A minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience, preferably in a post-secondary environment, and five (5) years of progressively responsible leadership of adults in a teaching environment
  • Other combinations of education and experience may be considered

Preferred Qualifications
  • Required educational qualifications plus additional undergraduate or Master’s degree in Education or Leadership
  • Progressive academic leadership experience involving direct supervision of post-secondary Faculty members (involving recruitment and selection; development and coaching; performance assessment and management)
