Position Information

Position Title Film Instructor - Sessional
Faculty/Instructor Profile
Red Deer Polytechnic’s (RDP) School of Arts & Culture seeks to fill one full-time sessional position in Film Production for the academic year 2023-2024. The term of appointment will be end-of-August 2023 to April/May 2024, with possibility of renewal the following year.
Specifically, we seek candidates who can enhance the diversity of our team, enrich the learning experience of our students, and contribute to the creative atmosphere of our community. The ideal candidate will carry on our tradition of excellence in film and motion picture instruction and demonstrate a proficiency in and sensitivity to material choices, methods, techniques, technologies, and tools in their area of expertise.

RDP currently offers an applied bachelor’s degree in Film, Theatre, and Live Entertainment (FTLE), of which the Film Production major is the active component. Our facilities and equipment are outstanding, and include a scene shop, on-site studios, editing suites, screening facilities, and access to a wide range of filming locations across Central Alberta. Graduates have matured as artists and technicians, but are also grounded in enterprise, business, and other industry considerations.

Our students and graduates have been actively employed in industry, in part because the program features a “flex year” in the final year of study. Students may work full- or part-time in industry or remain on campus to produce their own films in a final portfolio year, with access to faculty mentorship.

To be considered for employment, candidates will need to be able to teach courses across the program in Film Production and Cinematography, with the ability to teach either Digital Photography or Creative Think Tank as an asset.

Candidates also able to teach play analysis, playmaking, and theatre history are encouraged to apply. We are especially interested in candidates with the potential to contribute to program development, including the re-development of theatre production courses.
