Position Title Group Fitness Leader
Position Summary
The Group Fitness Leader is responsible for the delivery of group fitness instruction in the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre (GWHCGC). Reporting to the Fitness Services Operations Coordinator of Fitness & Sport Services, the Group Fitness Leader is responsible for creating and Leading Group Fitness Classes including monitoring and delivery of group fitness classes to our members and participants.

This position reports to the Fitness Services Operations Coordinator and takes direction from the Administrative Officer, Fitness & Services Sport on the program plans, scheduling and other tasks as required.
Position Responsibilities
  • Creates, implements and teaches group fitness classes in a safe and effective manner.
  • Provides direct support to participants, staff and other instructors when required.
  • Advises and teaches participants in their fitness class proper form and execution of exercises that are both safe and effective.
  • Responsible for setting up and taking down of equipment for fitness classes, providing support to participants.
  • Distribute program evaluation process at the end of each session.
  • Ensures that the public and our members are provided with safe, clean and enjoyable fitness class experiences.
  • Ensures all equipment is well maintained, set up, and stored in a safe and appropriate manner.
  • Performs general janitorial, housekeeping and maintenance duties.
  • Corrects unsafe exercises and conditions immediately.
  • Works closely with the Fitness and Guest Services Team.
  • Listens to and documents public and member feedback, program concerns, suggestions and feedback and passes this on to their supervisor.
  • Takes direction from the Administrative Officer, Fitness & Wellness Services on the development and execution of fitness events, master classes, and all health promotion activities to our members and community.
  • Provides exceptional Leadership to all GWHCGC members and clients.
  • Provides exceptional customer service both on the phone and in person.
  • Listens to clients’ concerns with empathy and acts appropriately with an empowered customer-focused response.
  • Provides information on fees, hours of operation, classes, and assists with general promotion of all services at the GWHCGC.
  • Demonstrates safe work practices at all times.
  • Models and supports all established fire, emergency and evacuation procedures for the GWHCGC.
  • Understanding the Gary W. Harris Canada Games centre Emergency Evacuation policy and understands where the muster points are located.
Required Qualifications
  • Completion of a 1-year college certificate, one year University or equivalent.
  • Over three years up to 5 years in previous job-related experience.
  • 1 or more of the following Certificates required:
    • Group Fitness Instructor Certification – AFLCA Certification in Group or Resistance Training
    • Can Fit Pro Group Fitness Certification
    • YMCA Group Fitness Certification
As well as:
  • Standard First Aid with CPR
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to think critically, to pay attention to detail, and to maintain consistency and accuracy.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize workload under pressure and in a fast-paced environment that presents constant interruptions.
  • Ability to learn new tasks, adapt to changes and remain tactful in stressful situations
  • Customer-service oriented; must be an effective team player and be able to work independently with minimal guidance.
  • Teaching experience with a variety of group fitness with a strong background and knowledge in fitness and wellness.
  • Ability to work flexible hours which includes evenings and weekends.
  • Experience in a team environment is essential.
  • Ability to develop and maintain quality programs.
Salary or Hourly? Hourly
Salary Starting at $30.04 per hour
Benefits and Compensation Information
An additional 15% of the hourly rate in lieu of vacation, statutory holidays and benefits.
