Position Title Sport Services Attendant
Position Summary
The Sports Services Attendant is an enthusiastic, customer-service focused position that is responsible for providing excellent customer experiences to all members and guests of the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre (GWHCGC) and all users of sport facilities and outdoor sports fields across the campus.

This position must develop a strong understanding of the business of the (GWHCGC) including facility layout, programming, user groups, facility bookings, public and special events schedules, with the ability to communicate any of these to all staff, members and guests. The Attendants perform all operations pertaining to user group bookings and events including equipment and technology set-up. The Attendant uses the scheduling and GWHCGC management software to complete key tasks at a very high standard and to make key customer service driven decisions to exceed the expectations of members and guests of the GWHCGC.

This position provides general support to all functional areas of the GWHCGC and in collaboration with the Coordinator and Lead Attendant ensures that safety, security, and emergency response is a top priority. The Attendant monitors the condition of all sporting equipment on a regular basis and alerts the Lead Attendant and/or Coordinator when maintenance and repairs are required as per established procedures. This position assists the Coordinator with a variety of initiatives and projects as required in support of excellence and innovation for our sports facilities and guests.
Position Responsibilities
Sport Services Operations & Customer Service
  • Execute all operations pertaining to user group bookings and events.
  • Execute the set-up and take-down of all equipment, (i.e. raising and lowering of basketball hoops, changeover of nets, setting up score tables, etc.) as required.
  • Ensures that all field of play technology is set-up and working properly (i.e. score-clock, sound/PA systems, etc.) for each user group and that users are able to operate the technology properly.
  • Setting up, taking down, answering questions, and monitoring both attendance and participation at all intramural activities and programs.
  • Ensures that each facility is in top-notch condition, is clean and fully set-up for each user group to the highest standards possible.
  • Responsible for sporting equipment inventory control.
  • Organizes and maintains the equipment storage rooms on Main Campus and in the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.
  • Monitors the condition of all sporting equipment on a regular basis and completes maintenance and repair requests for broken and damaged equipment as per established procedures.
  • Responsible for providing an excellent customer service experience to all members and guests of the GWHCGC and all sport facilities.
  • Develops a strong understanding of the business of the GWHCGC (including knowledge of facility layout, programs, facility bookings, public and special events schedules), to communicate appropriately with all members and guests of the GWHCGC.
  • Utilizes available software systems to facilitate operations and to execute service to members and guests.
  • Provides general support to all functional areas of the GWHCGC and in collaboration with the Lead Attendant and Coordinator ensures that safety, security, and emergency response is a top priority.
  • Responsible for the daily updating of arena user information on the Arena LCD screen.
  • Makes key customer service decisions that will exceed the expectations of members and guests of the GWHCGC.
  • Ensures the strict adherence to all procedures and expectations.
  • Inspects set-ups and acts on findings accordingly.
  • Signs off on daily tasks upon inspection.
  • Listens to client concerns with empathy and acts appropriately with an empowered and customer experience driven response.
  • Presents self in a professional manner at all times.
Guest Services Team Support/Coverage
  • During peak periods and/or unexpected absences, the Sport Facilities Attendant will be trained to provide coverage for the Guest Services team and support the normal activity associated with the Guest Services Desk as required.
Guest Services Management & Safety
  • The Sport Facilities Attendant in collaboration with the Manager and Lead Attendant ensures that safety, security, and emergency response is a top priority. Attendants are trained to help protect the health and safety of all guests, members and athletes through their awareness, proactivity, and response to a wide variety of situations in the GWHCGC.
  • Demonstrates safe work practices by completing monthly workplace inspections, participating in facility fire and emergency evacuation drills and ensuring safe work practices at the GWHCGC as per Red Deer Polytechnic Emergency Response Plan.
  • Will activate emergency procedures as needed or as directed by their supervisor.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent to about 12 years of schooling.
  • Ability to multi-task with strong organizational skills.
  • Customer service background with with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Above average oral communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Safety awareness.
  • Technical knowledge and proficiency.
  • Demonstrated safety awareness.
  • Ability to use emerging technologies effectively in the delivery of services.
Preferred Qualifications
Salary or Hourly? Hourly
Salary $17.71 per hour
Benefits and Compensation Information
An additional 15% of the hourly rate in lieu of vacation, statutory holidays and benefits.
