Position Summary

Red Deer Polytechnic is hiring a full-time, permanent Application Specialist who will have the ability to work on campus and remotely. In this role you will enjoy variety and the challenge of managing and performing tasks on both major software implementations and ad hoc projects.

This position will work within the Information Technology Services division under the direction of the Manager of IT Operations & Development.

Position Responsibilities
The Application Specialist is responsible for:
  • Implementing new applications and enhancing existing applications to align our current IT infrastructure with the operational goals.
  • Provides daily support for business enterprise systems which include but are not limited to Banner, Blackboard, CRM, Clockwork, and SharePoint.
  • Maintaining current applications and providing day to day troubleshooting to end users to ensure the software solution is working as efficiently as possible.
  • Performs software product evaluations and conduct feasibility studies for software and system products under consideration for purchase and provide recommendations to the stakeholders and leadership teams.
  • Performs technical lead role on project teams developing and implementing solutions to meet business needs.

The Application Specialist also focuses on:
  • Supporting data analysis and ensuring software solutions provide data in usable formats for users.
  • Documenting existing and new processes and ensuring updates and changes are reflected in training programs and materials.
  • Maintaining new processes by troubleshooting challenges and supporting users through the transition.
  • Develops and delivers tactical requests and enhancements including data extracts, new process setups, and offering improvements to the support process.
  • Designs and analyzes raw data into usable formats for users and to provide consulting support for process and system issues.
  • The Information Technology Services division ensures the effective integration and use of technology and systems in a learner-centered environment. The IT Operations & Development team executes service deliverables that align with the Polytechnic’s strategic plan. They ensure optimal operation and function of our IT systems.
Required Qualifications
Experience
  • Experience with relational databases, programming, and scripting languages.
  • Knowledge of technologies including but not limited to: data / process modeling, database reporting, business intelligence toolset, data extraction, PowerShell, UNIX, LINUX, SQL, PL/SQL, Java, XML, HTML, Blackboard LMS & web conferencing, Drupal, SharePoint, Mobile technology, Azure, Banner and Oracle suite of tools. Experience in application support and development standards and tools.
  • Knowledge of Systems Development Lifecycle (SDLC), Internet data security and an understanding of websites, web technology, website usability standards and web content management
  • Experience in direct customer facing role – must possess strong organization and communication skills.

Education
  • Two (2) years of post-secondary training, completion of a community college certificate including trades apprenticeships or equivalent.
  • Diploma in Computer Sciences or a related field

Salary $67,772 - $79,283 annually
