Faculty/Instructor Profile
The School of Health and Wellness at Red Deer Polytechnic is currently inviting applications for part-time Instructor(s) in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) program, commencing Aug 14 – Dec 23, 2024.

The BScN program is a four-year collaborative degree with the University of Alberta. It is approved by the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta. Graduates receive their BScN and are eligible to write the NCLEX examination leading to licensure as an RN. The BScN program provides exceptional opportunities to work closely with students, faculty and staff in an innovative, supportive environment that promotes creativity, scholarship, and commitment to student success. RDP offers an excellent professional development program that helps faculty to continuously develop skills, knowledge, and expertise specific to teaching and learning as well as their respective discipline.

Position Responsibilities
All four years of the degree program are taught by RDP faculty and part-time instructors may teach across the program. This program is designed for in-person delivery and part-time instructors will teach on campus or at practicum sites. This may require travel to urban and rural locations in Central Alberta, in addition to teaching on the RDP campus.

Responsibilities of this position include (but are not limited to):
  • Teaching students in classroom, lab, and/or clinical settings with flexibility for both face-to-face and online course delivery
  • Creating a stimulating, effective, and learner-centered environment
  • Preparing, reviewing and/or updating course material
  • Marking, grading, and evaluation of student work
  • Providing ongoing feedback, guidance, and assistance to students
  • Actively contributing and participating in program planning, curriculum development & review, project work, and scholarly activity
  • Participating in School and Polytechnic-wide initiatives and/or committees
  • Upholding the Professional Responsibilities of Faculty at RDP, which are described within the Faculty Performance Policy
  • Demonstrating and promoting RDP organizational values and following RDP policies and practices.

Required Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse with current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA)
  • Bachelor’s in Nursing or cognate degree
  • Recent clinical / practical experience, with particular preference for medical/surgical, rural acute, and/or mental health nursing
  • Excellent communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
  • Passion for teaching, ability to inspire students, and commitment to student learning and success
  • Ability to work effectively in a variety of team environments
  • Proven commitment to continuous learning and reflective practice
  • Experience teaching in a post-secondary environment
  • Current Heart and Stroke Foundation Basic Life Support Provider or Recertification Certificate (HSF-BLS Provider)
  • Driver’s License
  • Police Information Check
  • Current immunizations as per RDP requirements
Preferred Qualifications
  • Relevant Master’s Degree, PhD, or PhD in progress preferred.
  • Recent rural acute, adult health (medicine/surgery) or mental health nursing
Salary or Hourly? Salary
Salary Commensurate with education and experience.
Benefits and Compensation Information
This role is classified as a Part time Instructor. The Faculty Association at Red Deer Polytechnic (FARDP) and the related collective agreement provides further information on compensation for part time positions for Instructors at Red Deer Polytechnic. Compensation for this role is determined by the highest academic credential received and related experience. Part-time instructors receive an additional 14% of the gross salary in lieu of benefits and vacation pay.
