Position Responsibilities
Continuing Education and Corporate Training at RDP is currently inviting applications for Health Care Aide Instructor(s) in the Health Care Aide program for 3 sessional positions.

RDPs Health Care Aide program prepares learners to be part of a health care team and provide a high level of front-line care to clients in need of assistance in a variety of different settings. Red Deer Polytechnic is licensed to deliver the 2019 Alberta Health Provincial Curriculum. This is a full-time credit program with nine courses which include blended learning (virtual real time classes) with a combination of virtual and in-person lab components, two clinical placements, and one preceptorship.

This program prepares students to work as a Health Care Aide in acute care facilities, continuing care facilities, hospitals, as well as in the home setting. A Health Care Aide assists individuals needing care in a variety of ways including assisting with eating, dressing, washing and moving.

This program consists of a variety of learning approaches including online readings, assignments and lessons, in-person labs with a certified instructor, and in-person clinical placements. This program follows the Government of Alberta approved Health Care Aide 2019 curriculum and successful graduates are eligible to write the provincial exam to be certified as Health Care Aides in Alberta.

Responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
  • Facilitating students in clinical, lab and theory settings.
  • Providing oversight when students perform skills or procedures.
  • Creating a stimulating, effective, and learner-centered environment.
  • Facilitate pre- and post-clinical conferences according to program guidelines.
  • Promoting and maintaining positive relationships with external partners.
  • Marking, grading, and evaluation of student progress and work.
  • Providing ongoing feedback, guidance, and assistance.
  • Upholding the Professional Responsibilities of Faculty at RDP, which are described within the Faculty Performance Policy.
  • Demonstrating and promoting RDP organizational values and following RDP policies and practices.

Sessional
  • Full-time from August 2024 to May 2025
  • Sessional instructors may teach lectures, lab and clinical sections
Required Qualifications
  • LPN Diploma
  • Current active registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA)
  • Recent clinical/practical experience
  • Excellent communication, public relations and interpersonal skills
  • Passion for teaching, ability to inspire students, and commitment to student learning and success
  • Ability to work effectively in a variety of team environments
  • Proven commitment to continuous learning and reflective practice
  • Experience teaching in a post-secondary environment
  • Current Heart and Stroke Foundation Basic Life Support Provider or Recertification Certificate (HSF-BLS Provider)
  • Driver’s License
  • Police Information Check
  • Current immunizations as per RDP requirements
Preferred Qualifications
  • Past teaching experience
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a nurse
  • Introduction to Teaching & Learning at RDP

Sessional: Red Deer Polytechnic offers a comprehensive benefits package including Alberta Blue Cross extended health and dental plans, and health spending account. There is a tuition waiver for RDP credit courses for you as well as your immediate family members, as well as opportunities for professional development funding. The Local Authorities Pension Plan is also offered as an option to those who have served a waiting period. There is paid time off due to Institution closures between Christmas and New Year general holidays. This position also offers an additional 8% of the regular salary in lieu of vacation.
