Position Responsibilities
Red Deer Polytechnic’s (RDP) School of Arts and Education invites applications from versatile, experienced filmmakers/cinematographers for a probationary continuous position (full-time) in Film Production beginning August 7, 2024.

Our ideal applicant holds an MFA in Film/Media Production (or closely related discipline), has substantial relevant university or college teaching experience, and is active in creative or technical research practice with a focus in filmmaking.

The successful candidate will teach introductory to advanced courses in core aspects of film production. They will also help faculty and school leadership shape the future of RDP’s Film Production program.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Teaching a dynamic range of production courses: Production, Cinematography, and others according to expertise and interest (Screenwriting, Directing, etc.).
  • Contributing to program and curriculum development in alignment with industry trends and needs, RDP’s mandate, and the Dean’s vision and direction.
  • Mentoring students, fostering a collaborative learning environment, and assisting with recruitment initiatives.
  • Serving on program, school, and institutional committees, helping shape and advance both the program and RDP’s arts profile.
  • Maintaining active involvement in the film industry through professional, creative, or research practice, and engaging with the vibrant arts scene in Red Deer.
Required Qualifications
Applicants must have:

  • a graduate degree in Film/Media Production or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • substantial film industry experience demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of the production pipeline.
  • a proven ability to teach at a post-secondary level.
  • a commitment to active involvement in regional/provincial scene.

All program teaching and activities are based on campus, and the successful candidate will be committed to an active presence for teaching, consultation, and service contributions.
Preferred Qualifications
Our ideal applicant has:

  • an MFA in Film Production or closely related discipline or similar terminal degree.
  • curriculum and program development experience.
  • high-level interpersonal and communications skills; intellectual and professional humility; and a collegial, collaborative approach to teaching, service, and administration.
  • an aptitude for leadership and a service orientation.
