Position Responsibilities
The School of Arts and Education at Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) is seeking an instructor for a full-time, 8.5 month sessional position starting on August 14, 2024.

We welcome applications from candidates with expertise in either Art History or Creativity, and strongly encourage applications from those who possess expertise in both disciplines.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Leading/teaching Creativity classes focused on exploring and developing creativity as a growth mindset, including resiliency, determination, empathy, problem-solving, creative communication, and innovative design thinking.
and/or

  • Teaching undergraduate-level Art History courses, including Survey Courses, Western Art (19th & 20th centuries), Canadian Art History, and Canadian Contemporary Art. These courses will engage students in the analysis of artistic periods, styles, individual works, and the development of critical writing skills.

Per the incumbent’s expertise and associated demand, there may also be opportunities to teach in related areas: Animation, Music, or Dramatic History; Visual Art studio courses; or Film Production.

Additional expertise in instructing in one or more of these areas or contributing to ongoing program development will therefore be a considerable asset.
Required Qualifications
Applicants must have:

  • A completed graduate degree in Art History, Creativity, or related area.
  • Post-secondary teaching experience.

While there may be opportunities for online or hybrid instruction, work will primarily be located on campus, so applicants must be committed to an active teaching, consulting, and service presence on site.

Qualifications Preferred:

  • PhD in Art History, Creativity, or related area and post-secondary teaching experience.

Red Deer Polytechnic offers a comprehensive benefits package including Alberta Blue Cross extended health and dental plans, and health spending account. There is a tuition waiver for RDP credit courses for you as well as your immediate family members, as well as opportunities for professional development funding. The Local Authorities Pension Plan is also offered as an option to those who have served a waiting period. There is paid time off due to Institution closures between Christmas and New Year general holidays. This position also offers an additional 8% of the regular salary in lieu of vacation.
