Position Title Referee
Position Summary
The Referee reports to the Recreation Program Coordinator and provides officiating services for a variety of sports, as part of recreation and intramural programming offered by the Fitness & Sport Services.
Position Responsibilities
To control the play of the No Hit Hockey League and/or Ringette in Fitness & Sport Services:
  • Provides leadership to ensure that conflicts and game-related issues are resolved amicably.
  • Responsible for making decisions that support a safe and positive environment.
  • Performs duties on and off the ice.

RDP Occupational Health and Safety:
  • Demonstrates safe work practices.
  • Models and supports all established fire, emergency, and evacuation procedures for the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre (GWHCGC).
  • Understands the GWHCGC Emergency Evacuation policy and understands where the muster points are located.

Required Qualifications
  • Previous experience refereeing sports; Refereeing certificated is an asset.
  • High school diploma or equivalent to about 12 years of schooling.
  • Minimum 6 months experience refereeing sports.
  • Must be knowledgeable about the rules and regulation of the sport.
  • Acts responsibly, fairly, and professionally in referee duties.
  • Familiar with rules and regulations of the sport you are officiating.
  • Oversees games and conducts games and self in a manner that helps create a positive experience for all involved.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Completion of a 1 year college certificate, one year University or equivalent schooling.
  • Red Deer Polytechnic Student preferred.
  • Familiarity with Red Deer Polytechnic Intramural Programs preferred.
  • Hockey Alberta Certified is an asset.
Salary or Hourly? Hourly
Salary $20.30 per hour
Benefits and Compensation Information
Additional 15% of hourly rate in lieu of vacation, statutory holidays and benefits.
